• In 1969, he introduced Chacha Chaudhary, a character so unique that it immediately became relatable to the common man of India.

• Unlike Western superheroes with muscular bodies and superhuman strength, Chacha Chaudhary was an ordinary elderly man with extraordinary wit. His famous tagline:
  “Chacha Chaudhary’s brain works faster than a computer.”

• Over the decades, Pran created more characters like Billoo, Pinki, Shrimatiji, Raman, and of course, collaborated with Raj Comics superheroes like Tiranga to give us patriotic editions.

Pran Sahab’s comics have been translated into over 10 Indian languages and some foreign languages, reaching millions of readers. His art made reading fun for children and nostalgic for adults.

Who is Chacha Chaudhary?

Chacha Chaudhary is one of the most iconic comic characters of India. He is portrayed as a simple, middle-class elderly man wearing a red turban, white mustache, and walking stick. Unlike Superman or Spiderman, Chacha doesn’t fight with physical strength but with his sharp brain and quick wit.

• His intelligence often outsmarts thieves, criminals, corrupt officials, and even villains with supernatural powers.

• He is accompanied by Sabu, a giant from Jupiter, who uses his immense strength when needed.

सन् 1960 से लेकर 1990 के दशक तक, जब टीवी हर घर में नहीं पहुँचा था, कॉमिक्स बच्चों और बड़ों के लिए सबसे सस्ता और मनोरंजक साधन थे। उस दौर में चाचा चौधरी, बिल्लू, पिंकी, तिरंगा और नागराज जैसे किरदार घर-घर का हिस्सा बन गए थे।

कॉमिक्स ने न सिर्फ़ मनोरंजन किया बल्कि बच्चों को नैतिकता, अच्छाई-बुराई का अंतर, और देशभक्ति का महत्व भी सिखाया। इसी धारा में कार्टूनिस्ट प्राण कुमार शर्मा (प्राण साहब) ने भारत को उसका पहला असली कॉमिक्स ब्रह्मांड दिया।

प्राण कुमार शर्मा कौन थे?

प्राण कुमार शर्मा (1938–2014) को भारत का सबसे महान कार्टूनिस्ट माना जाता है। उन्हें अक्सर “भारत का वॉल्ट डिज़्नी” कहा जाता है।

• 1969 में उन्होंने चाचा चौधरी को जन्म दिया – एक ऐसा किरदार जो हर भारतीय के लिए तुरंत जुड़ाव का प्रतीक बन गया।

• पश्चिमी सुपरहीरोज़ के विपरीत, चाचा चौधरी एक साधारण बुजुर्ग थे, जिनकी असली ताकत उनकी तेज़ बुद्धि और चतुराई थी।

• उनका मशहूर संवाद था:

चाचा चौधरी कौन हैं?

चाचा चौधरी भारत के सबसे लोकप्रिय कॉमिक किरदारों में से एक हैं। लाल पगड़ी, सफेद मूँछें और हाथ में लाठी—यह उनकी पहचान है।

• उनकी असली ताकत है बुद्धि और समझदारी, न कि शारीरिक शक्ति।

• वह अपने साथी साबू (बृहस्पति ग्रह का विशालकाय) के साथ अपराधियों और शैतानों को हराते हैं।

• कहानियों में हास्य, नैतिक शिक्षा और देसीपन झलकता है।
